AT PARKSIDE COMMUNITY CHURCH,
we are a caring community.
Promoting spiritual journeys
Open and Affirming
Open and Affirming (ONA) is the United Church of Christ's designation for congregations, campus ministries, and other bodies in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions.
Parkside has proudly been an Open and Affirming congregation since the early 1990s!
On Palm Sunday 2017, Parkside voted to become a Solidarity Congregation. While we do not have the facilities to house anyone, our faith calls us to pledge support to congregations that are in a place to create a sacred space of refuge for immigrant individuals and/or families that are in immediate danger of deportation.
We have committed to stand in solidarity with immigrants by being a community of love, hospitality and fellowship for any congregation offering Sanctuary. We will provide tangible and physical resources; provide personal accompaniment to people in Sanctuary care; host prayer vigils; give public declaration of physical, spiritual, moral, and financial support; provide rapid response and support in situations of public need such as press conferences, raids, and demonstrations; contact legislative representatives and government officials for action items; and establish strategic relationships with local city government and police departments. We do all of this to walk in the justice-loving way of Jesus.
