Other Outreach Ministries

The annual CROP Walk sponsored by Church World Service gives Parksiders the opportunity to raise funds toward stopping world hunger. Each year our congregation enthusiastically recruits walkers and pledges. Each year we rank in the top 10 of churches with the most walkers!

CROP Hunger Walks help to support the overall ministry of Church World Service, especially the grassroots, hunger-fighting development efforts of partner agencies in some 80 countries. CROP Hunger Walks help to provide tools of hope that empower people to meet their own needs. From seeds and tools, to wells and water systems, to technical training and micro-enterprise loans, the key is people working together to identify their own development priorities, their strengths and their needs—something CWS has learned through some 60 years of working in partnership around the world.



In addition, each local CROP Hunger Walk can choose to return up to 25 percent of the funds it raises to local hunger-fighting programs.

Family Promise is an ecumenical effort to help families in transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency and hope.  While Parkside does not host families at our facility due to lack of space, we support our sister UCC church, Sierra Arden, when they are hosting families.  Parksiders prepare dinner and enjoy it with the families during one of the evenings each quarter.  You can join us in reaching out, respecting, and encouraging families to stay together during their challenges.

Black Infant Health is an initiative by the Sacramento Department of Health to support first time African / American mom's and dad's as they prepare for their roles in parenthood.  In partnership with the Birthing Project Parkside celebrates the accomplishments of these young women as they graduate. We host their ceremony, provide a reception for them, and give them a joint baby shower.  We're investing in their future because we believe every child deserves the best start they can get.
